| My Birthday Adventure
Thursday, June 9th - I receive a mysterious note telling me to open up a hidden document on my laptop. The note tells me to leave Monday, June 13th free for my "secret mission".
Monday, June 13th: 11am - John tells me he needs to go check the mail. He doesn't return. Thirty minutes later, the alarm clock suddenly goes off and I find an envelope addressed to "GLF" tucked underneath. GLF? What's that? I realized it's part of my license plate (GLF = Grace Loves Food)! Apparently, I'm "Agent GLF"...haha. The note tells me to go to the restaurant adjacent to Jamba Juice..... Japaneiros! I needed to be there by noon and meet a "dark and handsome man"....John. hhahhaa.
12pm - I see John sitting at a table at Japaneiros. By this time, I'm pretty excited because I LOVE games and I knew this whole day would be one big game for me to play =). So we enjoy lunch there, take a pic together with our new Polaroid camera, and john pays the bill. Soon after, he’s telling me he’s dying to go to the bathroom (this happens quite frequently) so I’m like, “ok go go go…” Ten seconds later, I turn around and the waiter hands me an envelope with the initials “GLF” on it and says, “Your husband’s just left. Have a good day.”
1:10pm - I open up the envelope and find a note telling me to go to a place near Beck’s Prime to eat chocolate, marshmallows and strawberries. Mmm….sounds yummy….Coldstone! I needed to be there by 1:15pm. I pull up to the parking space and see 2 of my cute 9th grade girls – Jovelle and Erin – walking into the store. Hehe, I got out of my car and saw a bunch of 9th grade girls coming out of the bathroom at Coldstone Creamery! They showered me with encouragement notes and we enjoyed yummy ice-cream together! As we were leaving, the employee at the store asked me, “Are you Agent GLF?” I reply, “Uumm…I think so…” and she handed me an envelope. My instructions were to go to an office building at Riverstone with the code name “Woodhouse” at 2:35pm. I had no idea what this place was but I didn’t think too much about it. So I had about 45 minutes to hang out with my girls so we went to Paper Trousseau, EB Games, and Family Christian Bookstore.
2:40pm – I’m driving on Highway 6 and turn onto Riverstone, completely clueless where John was leading me. I turn into the parking lot of the offices at Riverstone and see “Woodhouse – Day Spa”! I got super excited and rushed in. I found out that John had booked a massage, facial, and pedicure for me =)! What a nice treat!
5:25pm – I walk out into the lobby of the day spa and see this funny looking Asian girl wearing a dorky hat and cheapy sunglasses. I went up to her and poked her on the arm saying, “Tiff…” She looked up and smiled and asked, “How’d you know it was me?!?!” She seemed disappointed that I recognized her through her “disguise”. Anyways, she hands me an envelope and it basically just tells me to do what my sister says. Haha.
5:45pm – My sister navigates me to the Galleria uptown area and tells me to park in between Banana Republic and Victoria’s Secret. I got really excited because I saw Crate & Barrel right next door (one of my favorite stores) and was already itching to go there. She opens up my glove compartment and takes out a square envelope. I open it up and find a VERY NICE gift card to Crate & Barrel from my parents and John. My next “mission” was to shop there with my sister for the next 1.5 hours! Haha….awesome =).
7:00pm – We’re done shopping at Crate & Barrel but we still have 30 minutes to hang out before my next mission so we went to Anthropologie to browse. Then my sister hands me my last and final envelope, directing me to Maggiano’s =).
7:30pm – I arrive at Maggiano’s and see my parents with John…finally! It was so good to see them. I walk into the restaurant and see 20 of my other friends seated at a long table. What a great way to end the day – with friends and good Italian food!
Thanks so much for everything, John, family, & friends =). I feel like the most blessed wife in the world – MISSION: ACCOMPLISHED.
